Consultant – Communications (Litigation and Disputes, Crisis Communications)
We are looking for a Consultant to support Portland’s growing Litigation and Disputes offer.
*This is an Account Manager level role at a Communications agency, not a law firm*

The role
We are looking for a Consultant to support Portland’s growing Litigation and Disputes offer.
The candidate will have at least 2/3 years experience working full-time in a PR agency or in-house at a relevant organisation or company, with a demonstrable interest in the law, international relations and politics.
The candidate will also have a proven track record of quantitative or digital skills and have experience of creatively applying these to strategic communications.
The Consultant may be required to carry out all or some of the following key tasks in support of our clients:
- Working with the team to devise and deliver solutions for our clients, in particular demonstrating initiative in the application of your digital knowledge and skills;
- Sourcing information and writing briefings using digital and media audit tools, and legal documents;
- Managing monitoring processes, tracking issues in the media and online, and make proactive recommendations;
- Sourcing and preparing detailed draft media and social media analysis reports;
- Helping build integrated communications plans for our clients, including combining media relations, social media and other online channels;
- Supporting the management team in developing strategy and messaging for our clients;
- Researching media targets and recommendations and delivering on media outreach;
- Supporting Consultants in project management of accounts;
- Supporting new business proposals and pitches;
- Sharing knowledge and skills in digital communications within Portland.
Person specification:
You must:
- Have excellent English-language writing skills;
- Be organised and able to manage demanding workloads under time pressure;
- Have a willingness to learn from your colleagues and to share knowledge with them;
- Be logical, creative and flexible in the appraisal of problems;
- Be a confident communicator in person and over the phone;
- Be numerate with strong analytical skills and attention to detail and experience in managing large datasets
- Have the ability to conduct comprehensive analysis of information to tight deadlines ensuring accuracy and relevance;
- Have experience of using social media platforms and executing paid social strategy in a professional capacity;
Qualifications and skills:
You must:
- Have at least 2/3 years experience working full-time in a PR agency or in-house at a relevant organisation;
- Demonstrate an interest in and understanding of the law, litigation PR, international politics and reputation management;
- Be proficient in the use of Internet tools, Microsoft programmes (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and digital/audit tools (TalkWalker, Signal, Tagger, Factiva, SimilarWeb, Google Analytics, and back-end of social platforms
Desirable:
- Litigation PR experience;
- Foreign language skills, particularly Arabic, French or Russian;
- Experience of Public Affairs, politics and campaigning;
- Experience in journalism, blogging and social media;
- Experience of using social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter) in a professional capacity.
- Use of data for open source research and analysis.
- Proficient in the use of digital research and analysis tools.
